The 2024 National Magnet Conference® & Pathway to Excellence Conference® in New Orleans Announces NEW FireSide Chat with American Nurses Foundation HBCU Grant Recipients
Southern University and A&M College Received $339,000 Grant Benefitting Male Student Nurses Of Color
SILVER SPRING, MD – Today, the American Nurses Foundation (ANF) is pleased to announce the addition of a special educational session at the highly anticipated ANCC National Magnet Conference® and Pathway to Excellence Conference® held this year in New Orleans, Louisiana on October 30 – November 1. This new session is dedicated to examining the impact of one of the premiere nursing research grants from ANF, Diversify Nursing Research through Support of Minority Institutions and features discussions with representatives from Southern University and A&M College, a historically Black College and University (HBCU) in Baton Rouge, Louisiana that received the funding.
In October, some of the students from Southern University’s school of nursing who happened to all be Black men produced a viral video on social media demonstrating the impact of the $339,000 grant on their career trajectory. This three-year grant partnership was developed out of the desire to address some of the barriers faced by racial and ethnic minorities in the field of nursing. And it has spurred considerable interest among partner organizations and generated positive news coverage.
The educational session is a panel discussion moderated by the American Nurses Enterprise CEO, Angela Beddoe, including participation from the Interim Executive Director of ANF, Adriane K. Griffen, DrPH, MPH, MCHES, and Senior Vice President of Equity and Engagement for the American Nurses Enterprise, Katie Boston-Leary, PhD, MHA, MBA, RN, NEA-BC, FADLN. They will be joined by the esteemed members of Southern University faculty, including Sandra C. Brown, DNS, APRN, FNP-BC, CNE, ANEF, FAANP, FAAN, Dean and Professor of the College of Nursing and Allied Health, and Mr. Marlin Hollins, Director of Institutional Advancement at Southern University, among others along with a few of the students who participated in the video.
