ANCC Honors Loressa Cole with 2024 Margretta Madden Styles President’s Award

SILVER SPRING, MD —Today, the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) presented its prestigious Margretta Madden Styles President’s Award to Loressa Cole, DNP, MBA, RN, NEA-BC, FAAN, FACHE. This award celebrates Dr. Cole’s extraordinary accomplishments, visionary leadership, and profound effects on nursing practice and the health care community. The award was conferred at the 2024 ANCC National Magnet Conference® and the ANCC Pathway to Excellence Conference® in New Orleans.
“Loressa’s tenured commitment and lasting impacts to the nursing profession are an inspiration to us all,” said ANCC President Laura J. Wood, DNP, RN, NEA-BC, FAAN. “Within every health care community and at all levels of her career, she has dedicated herself to the support and professional advancement of nurses, leaving the enduring mark of outstanding leadership and devoted service.”
Dr. Cole served the ANA Enterprise as CEO from 2018 to 2023. During her tenure, she led the organization through the uncertainties and challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, started ANA's Racial Reckoning Journey, and established a strong financial and operational trajectory to support the organization’s key missions well into the future. Dr. Cole joined the ANA Enterprise in 2016 as executive director and executive vice president of the American Nurses Credentialing Center.
Previously, Dr. Cole held chief nursing officer and chief operating officer positions within Hospital Corporation of America’s Capital Division. While chief nursing officer at LewisGale Montgomery Hospital, she led the hospital to attain ANCC Magnet® recognition. Among her many accomplishments, Dr. Cole served on the Virginia Nurses Association (VNA) board for several years, including as president of VNA from 2012-2014, and was the 2022 recipient of the Virginia Nurses Foundation Nancy Vance Award, the highest honor given by the Foundation for exceptional leadership and achievements.
The Margretta Madden Styles President’s Award recognizes exceptional leaders who have partnered with the ANCC president to advance the mission, vision, and strategic goals of the American Nurses Credentialing Center. Honorees are selected by the ANCC president, and the award is given annually at the conference.
