A large piece of the work undertaken by ANA involves being a source of information on nursing quality, due to the research and measurement efforts of NCNQ®. Research projects have explored the relationship between nurse staffing and outcomes of patient care, leading to insight on best practices. And careful documentation of the nursing-sensitive indicators collected through ANA's National Database of Nursing Quality Indicators® (NDNQI®) provides valuable quality measurement. This nursing quality information can then be used by healthcare centers to make informed staffing decisions and improve patient outcomes, as well as by researchers who are granted access to data through the NDNQI® Research Council.
