Not only are registered nurses the most respected occupation in the United States, RNs are members of a valued profession
. One measure of this can be seen in the wages and benefits earned by RNs in the hospital sector and elsewhere in the economy. APRNs, in particular, own and operate clinical practices, treating patients’ health complaints and coordinating their care, and directly billing patients’ health insurers for specific health care services. Registered Nurses derive professional and personal satisfaction from being good at their work. They substantially contribute to the health and wellness of their patients and the health and wellness of the American People.
