Influenza
According to a 2005 survey of registered nurses supported by the American Nurses Association, only 5% believe all of their co-workers received an influenza vaccination during the preceding year. In response, the ANA launched the "Everyone Deserves A Shot at Fighting Flu" Campaign in 2005 to urge all nurses and health care workers to get vaccinated against influenza.
ANA renews its efforts to protect nurses and the patients that they serve from this preventable disease by encouraging all nurses to get their influenza vaccination this coming season. The Center for Disease Control anticipated that over 100 million vaccine injections would be administered during the 2006-2007 Influenza Season. The frequency of these vaccines and the fact that many of them were administered at unfamiliar environments increases the risk of needle stick injuries. ANA reminds you to insist on safety needles when participating in influenza vaccination drives. Remember: SAFE NEEDLES, SAVE LIVES!
