ROLE OF THE REGISTERED NURSE IN PROVIDING MASSAGE THERAPY AND THERAPEUTIC TOUCH

During the December 1998, board meeting, the Board voted to adopt the following opinion:

Massage therapy and therapeutic touch are within the scope of practice of the registered nurse in Iowa. As with any nursing activity that requires specialized nursing knowledge and skill, the Board holds the individual nurse accountable and expects the nurse to personally possess current clinical competence to perform the act safely.
