The American Nurses Association welcomes the Health Ministries Association as a new organizational affiliate. Through its annual conference, publications, constituency groups, and other resources, HMA supports leaders who integrate faith with the promotion of health in local communities. Established in 1989, the association’s membership includes health ministers, faith community nurses, clergy, chaplains, faculty, and program leaders, who provide health ministries in diverse faith communities.

ANA and HMA have enjoyed a positive working relationship. The organizations are collaborating on the revision of the “Faith Community Nursing Scope and Standards of Practice,” which ANA has co-published with HMA since 1998. The third edition is expected to publish later this year.

Additionally, HMA members are encouraged to pursue Faith Community Nursing board certification through portfolio assessment (RN-BC) with the American Nurses Credentialing Center, a subsidiary of ANA.

ANA and its 38 organizational affiliates, including the addition of HMA, together seek to share information and collaborate in finding solutions to issues that face the nursing profession, regardless of specialty. Read more about ANA’s organization affiliates.
