The American Nurses Association (ANA) provides the following statement attributable to ANA President Karen A. Daley, PhD, RN, FAAN:
“The American Nurses Association mourns the passing of Senator Daniel Inouye (D-HI). In his 50 years of public service, Senator Inouye stood as a steadfast champion of nursing. We acknowledge his leadership in helping to pass the landmark ‘Nurse Reinvestment Act,’ and his commitment to increasing patients’ access to care by removing barriers that prevent advanced practice registered nurses from practicing fully. Senator Inouye understood the connection between quality of care and safe nurse staffing and showed his support by introducing the ‘Registered Nurse Safe Staffing Act’ in every Congress since 2003.
ANA joins nurses from across the country in sharing our condolences with his family, colleagues, and staff.”
