The National Advisory Council for the National Institute for Nursing Research (NINR) held its 73rd meeting Jan. 18-19, 2011, in Washington, DC. NINR supports basic and clinical research that develops the knowledge to build the scientific foundation for clinical practice, prevent disease and disability, manage and eliminate symptoms caused by illness, and enhance end-of-life and palliative care.
The public session of the council’s proceedings included presentations by NINR Director Patricia Grady, PhD, RN, FAAN, on the work of the institute; Donna Berry, PhD, RN, AOCN, FAAN, on cancer symptoms and her NINR funded research; and NINR Deputy Director Mary Kerr, PhD, RN, FAAN, on the Institute’s draft strategic plan.
NINR invites public comments on the draft of the strategic plan. View the draft strategis plan on the NIHR website. The comment period opened on Jan. 18, 2011, and will close on March 19, 2011.
Members of the public can provide comments by e-mailing them to NINRstrategicplan@mail.nih.gov. The strategic plan is scheduled for release in October, 2011.
