The American Nurses Association (ANA) Center for Occupational and Environmental Health provides the following information:

On November 17, 2010, Safer Chemicals Healthy Families and Safer States, two health-based coalitions, released a new report titled, “Healthy States: Protecting Families from Toxic Chemicals While Congress Lags Behind”. The report addresses the failure of the 111th Congress to pass pending legislation to overhaul the Toxic Substances Control Act of 1976 (TSCA). The efforts to pass the legislation has been impacted by relentless opposition from the chemical industry.

ANA is working with the Safer Chemicals Healthy Families coalition and has worked with Safer States on the issue of national chemical policy reform.

The report underscores the important strides states have achieved in passing chemical policy reform legislation. The report recognizes that states will continue to adopt their own chemical laws until Congress enacts a much needed overhaul of the Toxic Substances Control Act of 1976 (TSCA).
