The American Nurses Association (ANA) provides the following received from The International Council of Nurses (ICN):
The International Council of Nurses (ICN) is delighted to invite applications for the 2010 Global Nursing Leadership Institute (GNLI), to take place September 11-17, 2010 in Geneva, Switzerland, where ICN is headquartered.
The GNLI is aimed at nurses in senior or executive level positions in developed and developing countries across the world. Applicants may come from a variety of settings such as; health service organisation, education institutions, national nurses associations, regulatory bodies, government departments or Ministries of Health, and so on. Applicants need to demonstrate the capacity, motivation and vision to undertake senior leadership development.
The GNLI will employ an action-learning approach where participants will observe and analyse strategic leadership in action, enhance their global health knowledge and strategic skills and engage in peer learning and development. The 2010 GNLI will focus on strategic planning and performance.
Worldwide, nurses in senior level positions are being challenged by complex and rapidly changing health care environments. As a result of participating in the GNLI, ICN expects that participants will:
- Be better equipped to build strategic alliances and use strategic thinking and planning skills
- Identify their leadership strengths and areas for improvement
- Acquire a deeper understanding of global health care challenges and be better positioned to effect positive policy change at the local, national and global level
- Be better equipped to take on higher leadership roles nationally and globally
- Develop lasting international leadership networks with GNLI faculty and participants
ICN has been a pioneer in leadership, management and negotiation skill development for nurses for more than 20 years, through the highly successful Leadership for Change™ (LFC) and Leadership in Negotiation (LIN) programmes. The GNLI represents the third-arm of ICN’s leadership development strategy.
GNLI participants will live in residence during the 6 day programme and the work of the GNLI will be conducted in English.
Further information and an application Form can be downloaded from the ICN website www.icn.ch/institute.htm. The closing date for submission of applications by email to ICN at email@example.com is 12 midnight March 31, 2010 (Geneva time).
