Joint Commission Appoints President

The American Nurses Association (ANA) applauds the appointment of Mark R. Chassin, MD, M.P.P., M.P.H. as President of The Joint Commission effective January 1, 2008. Dr. Chassin will help guide the Commission toward its goal of improving the safety and quality of health care. Dr. Chassin was instrumental in establishing a nationally recognized quality improvement program at the Mount Sinai Medical Center. Dr. Chassin has been acknowledged for his contributions in the fields of quality measurement and improvement; he received the Founders’ Award of the American College of Medical Quality and the Ellwood Individual Award of the Foundation for Accountability.

Dr. Mark Chassin has a strong track record in working on improving the quality of care, clinical outcomes, and the working environment of health care providers. ANA and its members on the Joint Commission’s Nursing Advisory Council look forward to working with Dr. Chassin and the Joint Commission to deal with nursing related issues affecting health care quality and patient safety.
