RESPONSIBILITES: Implements ANA goals through the research, synthesis, analysis, evaluation and development of briefing papers, reports and position papers and presentations regarding health policy and multiple areas of clinical nursing practice, nursing or health care services, and nursing or health related issues. Serves on behalf of ANA as liaison to various health care and/or governmental agencies, healthy care facilities and settings. Addresses practice and policy issues relevant to a variety of settings, including public health, ambulatory, community-based, correctional, mental health and other clinical issues as detailed by the association’s mission and goals. Works with and supports committees, task forces, volunteer groups as a primary staff resource as assigned. Seeks out and reports to the Director of the department the ongoing progress of the work assigned, difficulties with achieving the goals agreed upon and proposes solutions that are relevant to the nature of the tasks assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: Doctorate in nursing, economics, health policy, or public health from a recognized institution is required. Position requires ten + years of demonstrated, high-level competence in more than one of the following areas of the profession, as well as significant experience in application to a broad variety of nursing issues. Areas of the profession include research, grant activity, publication, teaching, and/or service in areas relevant to the position as demonstrated by a substantial record in the applicable area(s). Experience with database setup and manipulation using software, i.e., ACCESS, SPSS, SAS is desirable. Prior work with nurses or nursing programs on professional nursing issues strongly preferred. Public speaking and other evidence of high-level skills required. Ability to manage and complete multiple, high-level complex projects simultaneously. Strong written and oral communication skills. Must be flexible and able to formulate, evaluate and explain health policy. Ability to work effectively with staff at all levels and in all organizational units of the association is required. Travel is required.
