ANA offers three free products that can be used in the classroom to discuss ANA and the importance of a professional association:

  • Discover Your ANA - This seven minute member recruitment video explains the tangible and intangible benefits of belonging to ANA through interviews with current members, student nurses, and compelling "on-the-job" footage. Discover Your ANA video
  • The Importance of Belonging - This brief power point outlines the function of a professional association, the past history and present role of ANA, and the importance of belonging. See the PowerPoint below.

Instructor Modules

ANA’s publishing program had developed these products for classroom use:

  • Teaching IOM: Implications of the IOM Reports for Nursing Education 3rd Ed This updated and expanded edition summarizes the content, recommendations, clinical implications, and relevance to nursing of the IOM reports, including The Future of Nursing Report. It offers an even more extensive array of teaching–learning strategies for integrating the IOM material into the nursing curriculum. Now available in two versions: the expanded version for instructors and a condensed version for students and staff nurses. The student guide, Learning IOM, is tailored explicitly to nursing students, and works hand-in-glove with the concepts outlined in Teaching IOM.
  • Transformational Eldercare from the Inside Out: Book and Facilitator's Guide James and Linda Henry’s (2006) 160 page easy-to-use facilitator guide is contained on a CD-ROM which can be used with the book. The instructor may adapt any parts of the materials in the guide to make it useful for his or her own training purposes.

Course Adoption Program

ANA instituted its course adoption program through Nursesbooks.org, the publishing program of ANA, in 2004. Since then hundreds of nationally accredited nursing schools have adopted many of these titles into their coursework.

Most popular is the ANA’s Foundation of Nursing Package which contains Nursing: Scope & Standards of Practice, Guide to the Code of Ethics for Nurses: Interpretion and Application, and Nursing’s Social Policy Statement.

Additionally, each of ANA’s specialty Scope & Standards of Practice contained in ANA’s Standard Package are available for review to professors who interested in incorporating these books into their curriculum as supplemental or primary texts.

Not all of ANA’s books are available for review under this program. All publications available for review are listed on the review copy request form. There is a limit of four titles per instructor.
